Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari (Vyborg, June 23 of 1937) Is diplomat and political Finnish, Winner of the Prize.
He was president of Finland, between 1994 and 2000. His work as a mediator in international conflicts caused him to be awarded the Nobel Peace in 2008.
Ahtisaari held various positions as a diplomat and mediator of UN. Negotiated conflict in some of the most troubled regions of the world, taking steps, among others, the transition from Namibia to democracy (1989-1990), the working group of the International Conference for Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992), in overseeing the disposal of weapons IRA (Northern Ireland, 2000), in negotiating the status of Kosovo (2005) and negotiations between the authorities Indonesian and the liberation movement in the province of Aceh (2005).
In 2000 he received the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding[1]. He also won the UNESCO Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize for 2007[2] and in 2008, the Nobel Peace.
